The two versions of OpenAMQ should be using the same protocol version but amq_shell from 1.2 does not work with OpenAMQ/1.3. Iget the following error message when I try to connect 1.2 amq_shell to 1.3 amq_server:
$ ./amq_shell
amq_shell/1.2d0 - Management Console for OpenAMQ Brokers

E: Connection error: 502 malformed frame for 'connection.open_ok' method, aborting connection (localhost:5672)
E: could not connect to 'localhost'

Some protocol changes crept into the build, by mistake. The asl_connection.asl class has changes that were intended for a future release based on AMQP/0.91. The error will be fixed in 1.3a1.
