When I run the amq_server (version 1.3b0) in Direct Mode, and then try to connect with amq_shell, the shell hangs. A trace shows the server discarding the console request as "unroutable". In normal AMQP mode, it works fine.

Problem was amq.system exchange did not properly handle requests from the shell in direct mode. This has been fixed now, will be in the next 1.3 release (1.3b1).
